Title: Kiss the Girl
Author: m.jules
Fandom: She's The Man
Written for: pene in the Yuletide 2007 Challenge
Summary: Viola spends some nights wishing she were still pretending to be her brother.
Author's Notes: For some reason, I kept thinking of
jengrrrl when I was writing this. It isn't exactly South of Nowhere fic, hon, but you can consider it written with you in mind as well. ;)
She didn't dare tell Duke that there were days she woke up missing her sideburns and short hair, the strange swagger to her walk and the twisted speech pattern she'd given herself to masquerade as her brother. It had been fun, those few days as a boy, and more than anything she sometimes found herself wondering what would have happened if she really had dated Olivia.
The lovely girl was dating the real Sebastian now, but Viola remembered what it was like to have those eyes fixed on her in devotion, the body language saying everything Viola had ever wanted to hear, and she couldn't help but wonder.
She never told Duke that sometimes, those fantasies kept her awake at night. It wasn't that she didn't love her boyfriend - she did, and madly - but sometimes she wondered what would have happened if she had shown up at the kissing booth still dressed as Sebastian, if she'd paid her dollar and kissed the hell out of Olivia. She would have had an excuse if she'd done it that way - just a joke, just for the hell of it.
Sometimes she pressed her fingers to her lips, slipped the other under the blankets on her bed, closed her eyes, and imagined.
