"Henrietta?" Triela poked her head into the girl's room and heaved a sigh when she saw the cyborg sitting at the small table by her bed, intently focused on something she had spread over the table surface. "You missed dinner," Triela scolded. "Are you hungry?"
"I'm fine," Henrietta muttered absently.
Triela watched the girl for long moments before she finally said, "What are you looking at?"
"Candy."
Triela came into the room and looked over Henrietta's shoulder. Spread over the table were pastel colored candy kisses with writing on them - obviously Giuseppe had given his cyborg candy for Valentine's Day. It looked like Henrietta was arranging them by color, except one heart that was over to the side all by itself.
Triela tilted her head to get a better look at the solitary piece of candy. "What about that one?"
"I'm not eating that one."
Triela reached out to pick it up and saw the way Henrietta's shoulders tensed, the way her attention went to that one piece, and stopped short of actually touching it. It was obvious enough why Henrietta had put that by itself.
In purple letters on the gaudy orange candy was written, "I Love You."
She didn't have the heart to point out to Henrietta that Giuseppe hadn't written that himself. Knowing Giuseppe, the candy wouldn't be the only thing Henrietta got for the holiday. She just wondered if Henrietta would get what it was she really wanted.
