Title: Dropped Call
Author: m.jules
Fandom: Love Ahead: Over the Road
Disclaimer: The characters belong to Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux, and this is purely an extension of my ridiculous fangirling and is not done for profit.
Author's Notes: Being hopelessly stalled on one of my original stories, I implored
aidara to give me a fandom, pairing, and prompt for a little fluff. Being that I just got her hooked on the Urban/Roux books, she asked me for "Love Ahead, Jimmy and Elliot, camping and bears."
Elliot's hand flailed out to the side, aiming for his alarm clock before he realized it was his phone ringing. He groaned and brought the phone to his ear, flipping it open without opening his eyes to look at the caller ID. "Hello?" he croaked.
"Good morning, Millis," came a familiar voice, entirely too cheerful for as early in the morning as Elliot suspected it must be. "You sound half asleep. Hard night?"
Elliot groaned and rolled to the side, snorting into his pillow. "Not half," he muttered. "Mostly." The sunny laugh rang over the phone connection and Elliot couldn't help a reflexive smile at the sound. "Where are you?" he asked, stretching his legs out and wiggling his toes in an attempt to wake up a little more.
"Sitting in a tree looking at a bear." The blithe answer made Elliot blink and sit up straight, groaning as his back protested. And he thought he'd picked a soft spot this time.
"How close is the bear?" Elliot asked urgently, scrubbing his free hand through his hair as he stood up and cast a bleary eye around for his boxers. He found them and tugged them on awkwardly.
"Oh, I don't think he's dangerous." Elliot could almost see the evil smile behind that voice. "He mostly looks sleepy. And a little confused. I think he's just a big ol' teddy bear."
Elliot paused, blinked, and turned slowly. The flap to their tent was pinned open and just outside, Elliot could see Jimmy comfortably sitting in the low vee of a young tree, ankles crossed where they stretched out on the ground in front of him.
"I don't know about that," Elliot growled, fighting to keep the smile off his face. "He seems like the biting type to me."
Jimmy grinned broadly, still holding the phone his ear. "Oh God, do you really think so?" The breathless anticipation in his voice made Elliot bite the inside of his cheek.
Elliot stalked out of the tent, doing his best to glower at his lover who was basking in the early morning sunlight of the Appalachian Trail. Jimmy's smile was in danger of splitting his face in half as he said, "Oh no, he's spotted me. He's headed right toward me - I think I'm a goner, Millis! Tell my family I love 'em."
Elliot crowded his body against Jimmy's, biting into the side of his neck and relishing the groan he drew from the other man. "Tell 'em yourself," he said huskily.
Jimmy laughed softly and Elliot felt warm lips against the shell of his ear. Jimmy murmured, "I love you," just before the phones slipped from their hands and dropped forgotten to the ground.

Date: 2008-06-14 11:59 pm (UTC)This is the cutest thing ever, as I've already told you. You have the most genius ideas! How the heck do you do that?
Not only is the characterization spot-on in so few words, the writing is hilarious and incredibly hot.
